It’s hard to believe that Beyoncé forever altered the phrase “to the left” a full 10 years ago, but it’s true. When you’re done letting that make you feel sad and ancient, take a stroll down memory lane and jam out to all the songs you definitely had on your iPod Shuffle in the summer of 2007.
1. Rihanna feat. Jay Z, “Umbrella”
Rihanna was on the way to becoming the full-on diva she is today when “Umbrella” came out. You played this on repeat for days, and never said the word “umbrella” again without adding “ella, ella” in your head.
2. Taylor Swift, “Teardrops on My Guitar”
Taylor was just getting started writing songs about her exes back then, and we all hated whoever this “Drew” was. No doubt you shed some teardrops yourself while listening to this.
3. Fergie, “Fergalicious”
Fergie’s debut solo album The Dutchess came out in late 2006 and made her the absolute queen of 2007, when what might be the catchiest song of all time was everywhere.
4. T-Pain feat. Yung Joc, “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)”
T-Pain represents everything that was great about 2007, like AutoTune.
5. Beyoncé, “Irreplaceable”
“To the left, to the left” guided you through heartbreak from the end of 2006 all the way through the summer of 2007 and beyond.
6. Avril Lavigne, “Girlfriend”
You and your friends definitely jammed TF out to this song.
7. Soulja Boy Tell’em, “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”
How many hours did you spend learning how to “crank that” in your parents’ basement? Soulja Boy paved the way for all those silly dances everyone scrambled to learn so they could do them at the school formal.
8. Kanye West, “Stronger”
Two words: SHUTTER. SHADES.
9. Sean Kingston, “Beautiful Girls”
Sean Kingston brought all the summer vibes with him in 2007. The lyrics in the chorus are pretty problematic but that doesn’t mean they’re not still catchy as hell.
10. Fall Out Boy, “Thnks fr th Mmrs”
No doubt your angsty self rocked out to this in your room at night. In fact, you probably “rocked your socks off,” because people said things like that in 2007.
11. Rihanna, “Shut Up and Drive”
Guaranteed to make you feel like a total badass, despite the fact you probably couldn’t even drive yet when this came out.
12. Fergie, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”
Contrary to the title, you 100 percent cried to this song.
13.Gwen Stefani feat. Akon, “The Sweet Escape”
Released at the end of 2006, Gwen Stefani’s second solo album gently guided you through your coming-of-age like nothing else. Also, Akon — so 2007 it hurts.
14. Amy Winehouse, “Rehab”
Released in late 2006, this Amy Winehouse hit is still known as her signature song to this day.
15. Gym Class Heroes feat. Patrick Stump, “Cupid’s Chokehold”
We all need more Gym Class Heroes in our lives, TBH.
16. Shop Boyz, “Party Like a Rock Star”
If you say you didn’t straight up knock to this song in 2007, then you’re clearly a liar.
17. Lil Mama, “Lip Gloss”
It was poppin’.
